GENERAL OPTIONS
Switch Length (Long or Short)
- Choose between long or short Switchcraft 3-way Toggle Switch
- This choice will depend on the thickness of your guitar. If the top is thinner than 2 ⅛” then you will need a short switch.
Shaft Type (Split or Solid)
- Choose between split-shaft and solid-shaft CTS pots.
- This choice will depend on which model and year Gretsch you have, and whether or not you plan to reuse your existing knobs. Electromatics, Streamliners, and pre-Fender (circa 1989 - 2002) Gretsch guitars will require split shaft pots if you want to keep your stock knobs. Vintage and post-Fender pro-level Gretsch guitars will require solid shaft pots to fit stock knobs.
TREBLE BLEED MOD
A treble bleed (also know as a "treble retention circuit" or "volume kit") is used to prevent the loss of highs associated with lowering the volume on your guitar. We use a 1000 pf Mallory 150 Series Metalized Polyester Tubular capacitor in parallel with a 150K resistor. You can read more about this here.
TONE CAPACITOR
SBE Orange Drop capacitors will be used by default at no extra charge, or for an upcharge you may select between Sozo NexGen Yellow Mustard, and VH Audio's V-CAP TONE series ultra high-end Paper in Oil. The price will vary depending upon which capacitor you select. Read about our capacitor choices here.

NO-LOAD TONE POT OPTION
A no load tone pot works like a standard tone control when rotated between 1 - 9, but when rotated fully clockwise to 10, it is bypassed from thecircuit. The end result of removing the load is that you'll hear an increase in treble response.
A couple of notes:
- The pot is available in split-shaft only
- The pot does not "click" when rotated fullyclockwise to 10
WILL IT FIT WITHOUT MODIFICATION?
That depends. Please consider the following before placing the order
- POT HOLES: This will depend on which model and year Gretsch you have, and whether or not you plan to reuse your existing knobs. Electromatics, Streamliners, and pre-Fender (circa 1989 - 2002) Gretsch guitars use the cheaper metric pots, and therefore have corresponding holes drilled for the metric pots. These holes will be too small for the 3/8" diameter pots provided with your Rothstein kit and your existing holes will therefore need to be enlarged to 3/8" to fit properly. This is a safe procedure, and we recommend using a tapered reamer and NOT a power-tool such as a drill or dremel.
- KNOBS: This will also depend on which model and year Gretsch you have, and whether or not you plan to reuse your existing knobs.
INSTALLATION
Although the kit comes prewired and includes installation instructions, you will still need to have some basic electronics and luthier skills. If you are uncomforable with the process, we highly recommend you bring the kit to a competent luthier for installation. What will be "all in a days work" for a luthier, might be an extremely daunting and frustrating process for someone who hasn't work with guitar electronics much. Either way, here is what you must be determined before installation.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE
The best things in life are worth waiting for. Each assembly is wired and tested one at a time to your specs by hand. Our services have been getting quite popular lately, and our current lead time is listed in the universal header of the site. That being said, we always shoot to get your order out as quickly as possible.
