Our V-Cap Elite kit contains the absolute finest components money can buy. There are 2 differences between our V-Cap Elite DIY kit and our premium DIY kit.
- V-Cap TONE Series Capacitors Hear what people are saying about V-Cap TONE Series Capacitors
VH Audio V-Cap TONE series PIO caps are the finest capacitors you can put into a guitar. They are the result of 4+ years of extensive R&D by Chris Venhaus of VH Audio. Chris has taken the time-honored paper in oil concept and reimagined it with bleeding-edge manufacturing techniques, the finest materials, and American craftsmanship. TONE is a wet PIO capacitor, which means the winding isn't just impregnated, but also fully immersed in fluid, and then enclosed with mil-spec glass hermetic seals. Unlike many traditional oil cap designs, your TONE cap will NEVER dry out. The cap winding itself is made with the purest form of copper foil available, and since its encased inside a brass canister
its also fully shielded. This bullet-proof construction, together with solid-core, pure copper leads makes installation a breeze.
- Hand Selected 5% Pots
Most pots purchased on the open market have a 20% tolerance +/-. What this means is a 1 meg pot might be as low as 800K or as high as 1.2 meg.
Not so with the pots in our V-Cap Elite kit. We hand measure each pot individually pior to inclusion in our V-Cap Elite kits to ensure they fall within 5% (+/-) of the specified value. Any pot that doesn't pass the audition is not included in the kit.
The kit includes the following components:
- CTS Pots - Hand Measured within 5% Tolerance: (2) CTS 1M split-shaft 24 mm audio taper (lead circuit), Alpha 1M and 50K linear taper mini pots (rhythm circuit)..
- .033 uf TONE series PIO cap for the lead circuit.
Please refer to V-Cap Installation Instructions
- .022 uf TONE series PIO cap for the rhythm circuit
- Treble bleed mod- To prevent the loss of highs as you lower your volume. We use a 1000 pf Mallory 150 series cap in parallel with a 150k resistor.
- Switchcraftt right angle toggle switch with cream switch knob.
- Switchcraft slide switch.
- Switchcraft jack.
- Gavitt Vintage style "push-back" cloth wire in ALL 6 of the vintage correct colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white).
- Bracket (for roller pots).
- Roller Knobs.
- Heat Shrink Tubing.
- Detailed installation instructions, including wiring diagram.
The kit is based on vintage 58 wiring, but includes a couple of subtle, yet important improvements based on our 25 years experience working with and wiring Jazzmasters. The improvements solve a couple of problems, but are still very much faithful to traditional Jazzmaster tone. Specifically, the 2 improvements are:
- Lead Circuit Volume Pot with Smoother Taper. Vintage Jazzmaster wiring used a 1M linear taper pot for the main lead circuit's volume pot. Linear taper pots certainly have an important place in electronic circuits, but when used in guitar volume pot applications, they behave more like an on-off switch. If you have ever played a guitar with a linear taper volume pot, you will note that rolling the volume knob down past 8 results in a very rapid drop in volume. In the lead circuit, this is particularly problematic if you're the type of player who likes to used volume swells. The simple solution is to use audio taper pot instead, however not all audio taper pots are created equal. The pots sourced for the lead circuit in this kit have a smooth taper that works equally well for both volume and tone.
- Treble Bleed Mod for Lead Circuit Volume Pot. A common problem you may have noticed when lowering your Jazzmaster's lead circuit volume pot is the loss of high end. The way to remedy this situation is to employ a treble bleed mod (aka volume kit). For more information,
