Complete Refinish of 1970 Gibson Les Paul

STIPPING AND SANDING

Beginning the stripping process

Continued Stripping. Notice how the fingerboard hasn't been replaced just yet.

SEALING WITH FULLERPLAST

You may find this hard to believe, but the the only finish treatment applied to the back of the guitar prior to clear coating was the use of a dark grain filler followed by Fullerplast as the sealer. As soon as we shot the Fullerplast the deep rich nature of the Mahogany came out. We didn't show the grain filling process.

The raw maple top was dyed amber prior to sealing with Fullerplast.

The inlayed Gibson Logo was taped and the headstock got a fresh coat of black Lacquer.

Eventually we replaced the script Les Paul logo with a home made reproduction gold metallic decal using a special and rare Alps printer. Please note we will absolutely not sell these homemade reproduction decals under any circumstances. We only print and use them for genuine restorations., not clones.

On to the next pictorial in the series (fret installation)
