Fretless Epoxy Conversions
Update April 1, 2008
At the moment, we are not accepting any necks or instruments for Epoxy conversions. The reason for this is the rather dramatic growth in demand for our custom prewired electronic assemblies and preamps. |
This extremely durable epoxy finish protects the fretless board so you can actually use roundwound strings, and it will provide increased sustain. It is a pleasure to play! Here is a sound sampe featuring pro bassist Tony Senatore playing a Rothstein fretless J-bass with an epoxy fretboard. Everyone who has tried this reports an improvement in overall tone. We use a very expensive and slow drying epoxy which buffs out to an incredible shine. Definitely not the "garden variety" epoxy you find at Home Depot. If converting a fretted instrument to fretless, the frets are first removed, then the fret slots filled with wood, and following that the fingerboard is trued. The next phase is the application of high grade epoxy. Multiple coats are applied and sanded between coats, and finally polished to a high gloss. Please note the process takes 3-4 weeks. Prices are listed below.
