TELE® DIAGRAMS

FENDER 4-WAY TELECASTER -
4 way switch with master volume and master tone which is a nice upgrade to the stock 3 way switch. This is the same diagram that Fender provides when you purchase a 4-way switch from them. This mod works best if the neck and bridge pickups have opposite polarity. Here are the switch positions:

    • Position 1 = Bridge alone
    • Position 2 = Bridge + Neck (parallel)
    • Position 3 = Neck alone
    • Position 4 =Neck + Bridge (series)

REVERSE FENDER 4-WAY TELE WITH PHASE REVERSAL OPTION
Reverse oriented Tele (V, T, Switch) with added DPDT switch to wack the bridge and neck pickups out of phase for a thinner rather wonky sound, but certainly useful as an effect in the right song. The out of phase relationship is accomplished by reversing the hot and ground wires on the neck pickup, therefore you absolutely must read the info about the 4 way mod here if your neck pickup has a metal cover.

    • SWITCH OFF
      • Position 1 = Bridge alone
      • Position 2 = Bridge + Neck (parallel)
      • Position 3 = Neck alone
      • Position 4 =Neck + Bridge (series)
    • SWITCH ON
      • Position 1 = Bridge alone
      • Position 2 = Bridge + Neck (parallel - out of phase)
      • Position 3 = Neck alone
      • Position 4 =Neck + Bridge (series - out of phase)

FENDER 4-WAY TELECASTER WITH PHASE REVERSAL OPTION
Like the above diagram but with 2 differences. First, the controls are in a standard orientation (switch, V, T). Second is that the out of phase relationship is accomplished by reversing hot and ground on the bridge pickup. Please note you should NOT use this diagram if your bridge pickup has a metal base plate. Instead use the diagram above.

STANDARD TELE WIRING

STOCK TELE WITH KILL SWITCH
Stock Tele wiring, with an added Kill Switch to shut off the guitar.

REVERSE TELE WIRING
Same Stock Tele wiring, only with a reversed control plate. When playing the guitar and looking down at the controls, the volume pot will be first (all the way to the left), followed by the tone in the middle, and the 3 way switch will be all the way to the right.

50's ESQUIRE

GUITAR-MOD POWER TELE: Hum/Single with 5 way switch
Got a tele with humbucker in the neck and a single coil in the bridge? Looking for an interesting and versatile way to hook this up. Look no further!! This one requires a 5 way super switch to get a coil split in positions 2 and 4. Here is the switching:

    • Position 1 = Bridge pickup alone
    • Position 2 = Bridge pickup and SPLIT neck pickup
    • Position 3 = Bridge pickups and FULL neck pickup
    • Position 4 = SPLIT neck pickup
    • Position 5 = FULL neck pickup.

5 WAY TELE (For Single Coil Pickups) -
5 positions including neck/bridge in series, as well neck/bridge in series and out of phase! I have found that some of the 5 way super switches are a bit too bulky for a Tele, but this one sold by WD music products (part # WDE5XL) fits just fine into a Telecontrol cavity.

5 WAY REVERSE TELE -
5 Same as above, only the controls are reversed. In other words, when playing the instrument and looking down upon the controls, the volume is all the way to the left, followed by the tone in the middle, and the 5 way switch is all the way to the right

3 PICKUP, 7 SOUND TELE w/5 WAY SWITCH (alternative to Nashville)

KIT AVAILABLE HERE
This is meant for a 3 pickup Nashville style Tele, but this is NOT STOCK NASHVILLE WIRING. The wiring diagram enclosed provides you with 7 pickup combinations. Here is the way the 5 way switch works:

  • Pos 1 (far right) = Bridge
  • Pos 2 = Bridge/Middle
  • Pos 3 = Middle
  • Pos 4 = Middle/Neck
  • Pos 5 = Neck

Furthermore, the tone pot is wired with a "neck-on" switch. When you pull up on the push-pull pot, it will enage the neck pickup regardless of which position the 5 way switch is in. This will give you 2 additional sounds.

  • When the 5 way switch is in position 1 and the push-pull is "up" you will get bridge/neck (that is a classic Tele sound)
  • When the 5 way switch is in position 2 and the push-pull is "up" you will get all 3 pickups on at the same time (a very cool sound!!)
