Custom Instrument
Transluscent Black Burst S - SSOLDLD

This
one features a chambered ash body with a flame maple top, maple neck, all Callaham
vintage style hardware and Evans noiseless pickups. It is soooo light weight!

Here
is what the finished body looked like before completely shielding with copper
foil.

Some
pictures documenting the finishing process
Beginning
to tape up the flame top

I
protected the gorgeous flame top prior to priming the ash sides/back with a
lacquer washcoat in preparation for the grain filling.

Nice
looking grain pattern.

Sanding
back of the initial red dye. My goal was to get some of the red buried into
the finish so it can hopefully pop out a bit once clearcoated.

I
then hit it with some black, sanded the black back so it remains in the grain,
and then re-applied red dye.

I
then sanded back the red and re-applied black. The end result is a funky black/dark
gray with a strong purple undercurrent. This will become another animal once
clear coated.

After
2 coats of fullerplast. Its amamazing how the clear coat changes everything.
Fullerplast is used as a sealer and is by no means the final top coat.

.....another
view. I Can't wait to burst this one!!

Here
are a picture of the top after completing the black back/sides as well as the
burst with an airbrush.

Here
are some pictures of the ash back
